Employee of the Quarter

Sarah Hamilton, Admitting Clerk, was selected as the Employee of the Quarter for the 1st quarter of 2010.

Joining the Braxton County Memorial Hospital family in June of 2008 as a Ward Clerk on Med Surg, Sarah’s diligence and work ethics were noticed by Linda Davis, Business Office Manager. Having expressed an interest to transfer to Admitting, Sarah was chosen to fill a vacant position in August of 2009. Linda comments, “Sarah had only been in Admitting a short time when she realized that standing orders for outpatients could sometimes be difficult to locate and copy, resulting in a lengthy wait for patients.” Furthermore, the process involved for other areas of the hospital such as Outpatient Services and Emergency to access standing orders was time-consuming and impractical, especially after regular business hours and on weekends. Taking the initiative to improve the process, Sarah typed all relevant information pertaining to our patients with standing orders. She then scanned copies of their orders and insurance cards, compiling the information into one computer file. This file is now accessible as a shared folder on BCMH’s computer network for those employees with patient registration responsibilities. The file is secure in that only Sarah and her co-worker, Chris Jarrett, are authorized to update the information. Sarah has assumed the responsibility for maintaining the computer file by keeping information current, thereby reducing wait times for outpatients with standing orders and simplifying the registration process for her fellow employees.

Sarah and her fiancée, Porky, have three children, Sierra, age 15, Kirsten, age 13 and Emily, age 11. In her free time she enjoys playing cards, 4-wheeling and spending time with family and friends. When asked what she likes most about her job, she comments, “I like being busy.”
