Cathy Stricker, LPN, was chosen as Artist of the Month for May 2010. “Cathy has always been very helpful anytime one of my family members has been to see Dr. Stewart; but on this particular Monday, Cathy went far beyond her job requirements to get my husband the help he needed,” states Kathryn Greenlief, Site Coordinator for the Northern WV Rural Health Education Center. Cathy’s dedicated efforts were affectionately described as being ‘like a blood hound’ in her attempts to contact her patient. In the midst of completing paperwork and caring for other patients, Cathy never relented, ultimately reaching both Kathryn and her husband to coordinate a vital procedure. This is only one of many occasions in which Cathy has gone above and beyond her call of duty to ensure that the needs of her patients are met. She has a gift for familiarizing herself with both her patients and their caregivers, attaining an understanding of their individuality and serving as a wonderful resource between them and Dr. Stewart. She is knowledgeable about their healthcare needs; and perhaps just as important, she treats them as friends, offering a hug of encouragement during difficult times. Kathryn comments, “I thank God for caring people like Cathy and for our Community Health Center and hospital! It’s nice being cared for by people who you know care about you!!” Cathy began working at Braxton County Memorial Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant in August 1996. She later decided to continue her education, graduating from Garnet Career Center in Charleston to become an LPN in 1999. Cathy transferred from Med Surg to the Community Health Center in May of 2008 and assumed the responsibility of Clinic Coordinator in August 2009. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Tony, working in her flowers, reading and quilting. Cathy’s son is a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps. She also has two daughters and eight grandchildren.
